Log Analyzer for DB2 for z/OS

Issue/Introduction

When running a log analyzer report on a table with a CHAR column defined as FOR BIT DATA

non display data is displayed as x’4B’ in the output.

When using load format rather than a report the data is reported fine.

Environment

Release : 20.0

Component : Log Analyzer for DB2 for z/OS

Resolution

Log Analyzer is designed to report the data as X'4B'.

DB2 documentation says a column defined with the "FOR BIT DATA" option does not contain characters and therefore cannot be displayed in a report.

The periods (x'4B') used in the report only outline the length of the string.

It is not very common to see such columns defined in user tables but it is quite common in DB2 catalog tables and

tables containing an explicit ROWID column.

In any of those cases a hexadecimal image of the row immediately follows in the report so a user can see the hexadecimal representation as well.

Log Analyzer creating a file for a load utility or SQL contain the actual hexadecimal representation of the column ensuring it can be used by the load utility or SQL processor.
