Issue/Introduction

When configuring security questions in Identity Manager, the drop-down menu for selecting questions may fail to populate. This issue often prevents end-users from completing the security question setup process. This article details the steps to identify and restore the missing Box data provider, which is required for the proper functioning of the security question interface.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x & 15

Cause

The primary cause for the empty drop-down menu is the inadvertent deletion or misconfiguration of the "Box" data provider within the Identity Manager environment. Without this active provider, the system cannot populate the security question options.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must recreate the missing data provider and re-import the necessary data:

  1. Recreate Box Data Provider:
    • Navigate to the Identity Manager Management Console.
    • Locate the Data Providers section.
    • Create a new data provider entry named "Box" if it is missing or has been deleted.
  2. Import Security Question Data:
    • Once the provider is created, verify the connection settings.
    • Import the security question definitions into the provider.
    • Restart the Identity Manager services (or perform a cache refresh as required by your version) to ensure the changes take effect.

Note: If the issue persists after recreating the provider, verify that the service account associated with the provider has sufficient permissions to access the underlying data source.
