Duplicate models created in Spectrum

Issue/Introduction

We have found that duplicate models are being created in Spectrum.  We have trap based discovery enabled.  Is that causing this?

Cause

The IP addresses on the models changed and the devices do not utilize or support the ipadentaddr table.

Resolution

When discovery runs Spectrum queries the ipadentaddr table to determine which addresses a device supports.  In this case the devices do not support the IpAdEntAddr.  When the IP is changed on the device, Spectrum queries the table which returns nothing.  The SpectroSERVER had trap based discovery enabled. The IP changed and a trap with the new IP was sent to Spectrum.  Since Spectrum is unable to determine that this is the same exact device as the previously modeled device since the ipadentaddr table is not supported, Spectrum creates a duplicate model.
