This article documents support for DSORG PS-E in IDMS flat files.

Resolution

IDMS uses QSAM and BSAM for sequential file processing.

These access methods support extended format files (i.e. DSORG PS-E), and so the utilization of such datasets as sequential files is transparent to IDMS.

Therefore, files such as archive journal and log datasets, any SYSxxx files created by the batch utilities, and culprit report output files can be PS-E.

This is not the case for database and system journal files. These are processed with EXCP so they cannot be extended format, unless they are defined as VSAM files.
