Issue/Introduction

When installing a Gen PTF, the following error occurs.

 

An error occurred in the install process. Please check the file C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\Gen86\PTF_Backups\WKS86200.BAK\WKS86200.log for the problem.

........Access is denied.

 

There is not a PTF_Backups folder created in the C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\Gen86\ folder.  Is Admin authority needed?

Resolution

The workaround to 'Access is denied.' message when installing PTFs is to open a DOS Command Prompt with Run as Administrator and then execute the PTF EXE's from there.

If Admin rights are not allowed to install software on the PC, work with the company PC Administrators to create a software package and get it dropped/installed on the PC.
