Issue/Introduction

Altiris Services on the Notification Server (SMP Server) stop daily. Forced to reenter service account password when trying to restart the services

The following error appears in the SMP log files:

Unable to preprocess received client status data.

Failed to revert to Local System identity.
   [System.Exception @ Altiris.TaskManagement.Common]
   at Altiris.TaskManagement.Common.ClientTask.Communication.NsIdentityContext.EnsureExecutedAsLocalSystemIdentity[TResult](Func`1 fn, ThrottledLogAction`2 logAction)
   at Altiris.ClientTask.Server.ClientTaskServer.PreProcessClientStatusXml(Boolean encrypted, String statusXml, Guid secretGuid)

 

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

The following services were set to log in as the APPID (Altiris Service Account)

• Altiris Client task data loader
• Altiris Monitor Agent
• Altiris object host service

Resolution

We changed the login to the Local System account for the following services.

• Altiris Client task data loader
• Altiris Monitor Agent
• Altiris object host service
