Moving an application server across environments

Issue/Introduction

We currently want to add more SDM application servers, but first we would like to test the installation and configuration, so could we first install the new server in one environment and after change the configuration to connect with other environment?,

I mean, we have our test environment and our production environment in the same network, could be possible to install and set up the new application server first in our test environment and when after everything works run pdm_configure to connect with production?

Resolution

While technically possible, it is an unorthodox approach to stand up an App server on a testing env, then move the same server over to production.  We advise that a given app server should remain attached to a given environment as there will be vestigial references to the given server in its original environment, which may cause confusion in terms of architectural review.
