Issue/Introduction

Configuration Type: Bulk

Environment

Release : 20.3

Component : UIM - VMWARE

vmware probe version: 7.16T3

  • UIM 20.31 (no monthly patch applied)
  • hub 9.33HF1
  • robot 9.33HF6
  • Spectrum OneClick / Spectrum 10.4.2.2.22 (also known as 20.5)

Resolution

The appearance of the vmware "vCenter Server Appliance" generic Name(s) is not a UIM discovery nor configuration or vmware probe issue.

That said, as per VMware blog, it does appear that you are able to set the Name(s) to the FQDN but it will not persist unless you configure it as described below:

Changing your vCenter Server’s FQDN

https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2019/08/changing-your-vcenter-servers-fqdn.html

To verify, ask your VMware admin to:

  1. Login to the VAMI page. [VCSA_IP:5480 in a Web browser]
  2. Click the Networking
  3. Click the Address Tab

For example, here is a screen shot of an environment where those 'generic' names displayed in the administrative interface (VAMI page): Note that sensitive/private data is blocked out.
