Issue/Introduction

What steps are needed to prepare Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) for an upgrade of the RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or CentOS operating systems?

Environment

Release : 8.x

Component :

Resolution

  1. If SPE is enrolled in the Cloud Central Console, unenroll
  2. Once SPE is not enrolled, stop the SYMCScan service
  3. Back up Licenses, configuration files, logs, and for SPE 8.2.1 or later, Local Quarantine
  4. If SEP for Linux is also installed, turn off real time scanning.
  5. Uninstall SPE
  6. Upgrade the RHEL or CentOS operating system, following all steps recommended by the Linux distro
  7. Reboot
  8. Reboot
  9. Re-install SPE
  10. If SEP for Linux is also installed, re-enable real time scanning.
  11.  Restore Licenses, configuration files, logs, and for SPE 8.2.1 or later, Local Quarantine
  12. If SPE was enrolled in the Cloud Central Console, enroll it again
