How to remove DXagent service from Windows Services panel in Symantec Directory

Issue/Introduction

This article describes how to remove DXagent service from Windows Services panel, if you wish not to have it on your machine.

Environment

Release : 14.1

Component : CA Directory on Windows

Resolution

To remove the dxagent service from Windows Services we need to remove from Windows registry. Please do the following steps.

0. Go to Windows Services and stop dxagent service if it is running

1. Open Registry Editor

2. Right click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DxagentService and select Export and save this for backup.

3. Right click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DxagentService and select Delete

4. Reboot Windows

Additional Information

NOTE: Once removed, the service will get reinstalled during the next upgrade. As the upgrade script will find it missing, it will install a latest version of DXagent packaged with the product. One can follow the same steps mentioned above to uninstall the service again.
