Issue/Introduction

SMP (Symantec Management Platform) Server connection has been failed.
You are getting:
No connection to the database.

Error in the NS logs:

  • SQL connection failed, current user= The target principal name is incorrect. Cannot generate SSPI context.
  • A connection attempt failed because the connected host did not respond properly after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond (10060)

When opened the Symantec Installation Manager (SIM), there was a red line on top indicating there is 0 SQL Server Database selected.

 

 

Environment

Release: 8.x

Cause

SQL Server services were stopped.

Named Pipes in SQL Server Network Configuration was disabled

Resolution

Connect to the Database server and make sure all SQL Services are running.  (If SQL Server agent is not running, try to run it as well. although it could be failed)

 

 

Restart the services and check the NS again. 

If the issue is not resolved, open the Sql Server Configuration Manager> Sql Server Network Configuration> Protocols for the CMDB, and make sure all options are enabled.
