FAQs related to new releases of CA 7 Edition and detailed answers for each.
Release 11.3 only
You are upgrading from CA 7 Edition from r11.1 to r11.3 and have more than one LPAR. Do you need to upgrade CA 7 Edition, ICOM, and NCF at the same time?
These components can be upgraded at any time, and in any order. You can run each component across multiple LPARs under the new release with a previous release of the product. You can also run CA 7 Edition r11.3, ICOM, and NCF on an LPAR initialized via CAIRIM for r11.1. Previous functionality would not be affected. In this configuration though, Time Zone Normalization and the ability to display CMT information for NJE'd jobs in restart status would not be available until CAIRIM for r11.3 initialization is performed.
Can you upgrade the CAIRIM initialization to r11.3 without an IPL?
Yes. Set up CAIRIM procedure with no COMMANDS or KEYSDD and the RIMPARM would be the CA 7 Edition product card (member AL2RIM in CAL2OPTN library).
PRODUCT(CA 7) VERSION(L2B3)
What changes are required when upgrading from r11.1 to r11.3?
There are no changes required other than the CAILOAD library. However, without changes none of the new functionality of r11.3 would be available. All previous functionality will remain the same.
NOTE: If you are upgrading to CA 7 Edition r11.3 with maintenance applied…
- If RO32912 is applied, a DMPQ/MOVQ IS REQUIRED! Please refer to HOLD DATA for this APAR. Also, please review Product Information Bulletin RI47594. It is recommended that you apply all available CA 7 Edition r11.3 maintenance as part of your upgrade.
With which z/OS releases is CA 7 Edition r11.3 compatible?
Any supported release of CA 7 Edition will run under any supported release of the IBM z/OS operating system.
Can I reuse the previous CA 7 Edition release SMP/E zones?
No. CA Technologies recommends using new SMP/E zones for CA 7 Edition r11.3. This allows application of maintenance of old releases if multiple levels of the product are being used. Additionally, CA 7 Edition r11.3 has many SMP/E changes that would not conform to old SMP/E libraries.
Where is my SAMPJCL library?
There is no library with the SAMPJCL low level qualifier. It has been replaced by the dataset with the low level qualifier of CAL2OPTN. There is also no longer a library with the low level qualifier of JCLLIB. It has been replaced by the dataset with the low level qualifier of CAL2JCL. Please see member AL2$$XRF in CAL2OPTN for a complete cross-reference of old member names to the new member names and location of these members.
You see GTS and CA JCLCheck Common Component included with the new release of CA 7 Edition r11.3. Do you need to install these?
The Global Transaction Server (GTS) is used by CA 7 Edition r11.3 for the USS file watcher option. There is no requirement to install this product. However, we do recommend as a Best Practice to install GTS so that it is available if you should decide to use this functionality in the future.
The CA JCLCheck Common component is used for enhanced JCL validation within CA 7 Edition r11.3, via the editor or the LJCK command. If you are on a currently supported release of CA JCLCheck, there is no need to reinstall this component.
Where is the CPS component you previously had to install separately with a different FMID?
CPS is now part of the CA 7 Edition r11.3 FMID. The CPS modules are in CAILOAD prefixed with CAWR.
If you back out r11.3 and return to a previous release of CA 7 Edition, what steps must be followed?
Change the CA 7 Edition r11.3 startup proc back to the previous release loadlib. Be sure to shutdown 11.3 with a DMPQ shutdown and start the old release with a MOVQ type start.
Special consideration must be given if APAR RO32912 has been applied to CA 7 Edition r11.3. Please see Production Information Bulletin RI47594.
If no files were changed as part of the upgrade to r11.3, then no restores are needed.
