DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

  • We have added the IP and hostname in the server host file. We are able to ping the IP and hostname.
  • In our environment, we have servers having management IP, hostname and production IP.
  • Management IP is used for internal purposes and customer's use hostname and production IP. So customers don't know about the management IP.
  • When we try to monitor servers using the snmpcollector probe we are discovering and configuring using the Management IP, but while discovering with hostname, we are getting only the IP address in the Profile list.  Please advise.

Environment

  • UIM 9.02, 9.20, and higher
  • SNMPCollector 4.04 or higher

Resolution

Create a new profile in snmpcollector with the hostname as the profilename instead of the IP and then it should populate the data correctly.  But the old data will still be listed under the IP address... this could be merged together with the new data 'in theory.'

Please see this community post:

How to override hostname/IP in snmpcollector

 Steps to follow:

- create a new snmpcollector profile based on hostname

- allow data to be collected

- merge the old data to the new data (e.g., using the SLM portlet)
