Protection for SharePoint Servers

Issue/Introduction

You want to know if Secure ICAP can be configured to be used for Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers (SPSS) and Symantec Protection Engine (SPE).

Environment

SPSS and SPE

Resolution

Secure ICAP is SSL/TLS encrypted ICAP-based communication.

SPSS uses socket programming to connect with SPE. While registering SPE, SPSS uses IP address entered on the screen and port (default port 1344) and establishes connection.
SPSS uses ICAP communication while communicating with SPE for scanning purposes Ex. Sending scanning details and reading the response from SPE.

As per the current implementation, SPSS does not support secure ICAP for communicating with SPE. Hence there is no way to secure the communication on port 1344 in this scenario.
