Issue/Introduction

When logging into the Provisioning Manager UI, the error "ETA_E_0418, Bind to provisioning server as 'admin' failed: Password expiration date has passed" occurs. This indicates the Provisioning Server administrator account password has expired.

Environment

  • Product: Identity Manager 14.x, 15.x
  • Component: Provisioning Server

Cause

The global administrator account password in the provisioning directory has reached its expiration date.

Resolution

Change the password expiration date for the global user. If no other administrator account is available, modify the date directly in the provisioning directory.

  1. Connect to the provisioning directory router using Jxplorer with the following parameters:
    • Port: 20391
    • User: eTDSAContainerName=DSAs,eTNamespaceName=CommonObjects,dc=im,dc=etadb
    • Password: [Provisioning directory shared secret]
    • Base DN: eTGlobalUserContainerName=Global Users,eTNamespaceName=CommonObjects,dc=im,dc=etadb
  2. Locate the relevant global user and modify the eTPasswordExpirationDate attribute.
  3. Restart the Provisioning Server.

Date Format Guidelines The attribute uses the format CYYDDD, typically prefixed with zeroes:

  • C: Century (0 = 20th, 1 = 21st)
  • YY: Year (00–99)
  • DDD: Day of the year (001–366)

Examples:

  • December 31, 2021: 121365
  • January 1, 2022: 122001
  • December 31, 2024: 124366 (Leap year)

Alternatively, set the eTPasswordExpirationDate attribute to 0 to disable expiration. Once logged in, re-enable the expiration date for security compliance.
