S0D3 or DC390003 3994 abend at CV startup

Issue/Introduction

IDMS encounters an S0D3 abend at startup.

Resolution

PTF LU02838 resolves the S0D3 abend.

LU02768 is a pre-requisite for LU02838 (LU02768 is not the cause of the S0D3 - it is a pre-requisite to LU02838 only because they both replace RHDCOESA).

Applying LU02768 will cause the following abend at CV startup if the module RHDCLVLS is not in the CV STEPLIB or CDMSLIB:

  11:44:51  IDMS DC390003 V13 INSUFFICIENT REGION SIZE, STARTUP ABORTED.
  11:44:51  IEF450I IDMSCV01 IDMSCV01 - ABEND=S000 U3994 REASON=00000000 

RHDCLVLS is a new module first added to CAGJLOAD by LU02051.

If LU02768 is applied and LU02051 is not applied (or indeed even if it is applied and RHDCLVLS has just not been copied to the runtime CDMSLIB), the 3994 abend will occur.

The 3994 abend is fully resolved by LU03543.

Additional Information

The IDMS Compatibilities page documents that LU02838 is required for the support of z/OS 2.5. While this is true, in rare cases, the S0D3 abend has been seen to occur on prior z/OS releases. LU02838 is a required PTF that can and should be applied regardless of the z/OS release.
