Issue/Introduction

How do you migrate IP Databases?

Environment

Release : 14.x

Component : IdentityMinder(Identity Manager)

Resolution

In CA IM (Identity Manager) there is a specific process to migrate IM Task Persistence data (see link below), however, there is no such equivalent for IP (Identity Portal).

https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/symantec-security-software/identity-security/identity-manager/14-4/configuring/task-persistence/migrate-the-task-persistence-database.html

IP does not maintain external schema definitions like IM. The IP data model is based on Java Entities. Therefore, there is no specific requirement for migration, but there is a necessity to upgrade IP as per the documentation (Link Below)

https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/symantec-security-software/identity-security/identity-portal/14-3/upgrading/upgrading-ca-identity-portal.html

If the database tables need to be moved,  they can be relocated using the native DB tools and then the datasource can be updated in IM.  For example, the procedure to connect to that newly upgraded DB instance in the vApp (Virtual Appliance) is via the Dashboard.
