Issue/Introduction

On the Site Server settings page, the Task Service status repeatedly shows Pending Reboot. Reboots temporarily clear the status, but the issue recurs the following day.

Environment

IT Management Suite / Client Management Suite 8.x

Cause

Tasks or policies that require a system reboot are incorrectly targeted at site servers. Common examples include:

  • Altiris Agent Upgrade policies

  • Altiris Agent Installation tasks

Resolution

Resolution:

Identify and remove inappropriate task or policy target assignments from the site server:

  1. Open the Symantec Management Agent  on the affected site server.

  2. Inspect the following sections:

    • Task History: Identify recent tasks that triggered a reboot requirement.

    • Software Delivery Tab: Check for active software delivery jobs or agent rollout policies.

  3. Locate any policies or tasks incorrectly targeting site servers.

  4. Open the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) Console and update the target collections/filters for those policies or tasks to explicitly exclude Site Servers.
