DISK BACKUP AND RESTORE

Issue/Introduction

During Backup/Archive run, the following error can occur :

ADSDF102 4106 ADR905E (001)-SDMXO(01), DUMP OF EXTENDED SEQUENTIAL DATA SET RR.BBB.CCCC.CMMM.CP00008Q.ETTTOOOO.V2 FAILED.

ADSDF102 4106 ADR910E (001)-SDMXO(01), AN ERROR WAS ENCOUNTERED DURING DATA MOVEMENT PROCESSING. RETURN CODE = 500005E3, REASON

CODE = 00080063,

ADSDF102 4106                          SENSE DATA = 0041,00000E00,800100001DFFFF0400FF000800000004E5093CD7BB8F0F04000040E2000001E1

ADSDF102 4106 ADR415W (001)-DTDSC(04), NO DATA SETS WERE COPIED, DUMPED, OR RESTORED FROM ANY VOLUME

What is the cause and how to solve it.

Environment

Release :

Component : CA Disk Backup and Restore

Resolution

In order to obtain the exact DUMP command passed by DISK to DFSMSdss and that got the error, the same Backup/Archive can be submitted again setting the following SYSPARM :

DSSMSGDDxxxxxxxx
Valid for ARCHIVE, BACKUP, BACKUPCC, DBACKUP, RESTORE, and RECOVER
Specifying this sysparm instructs CA Disk to store a collection of DFSMSdss messages. For the value of this sysparm, specify a 1-character to 8-character DDname. The default is blanks, which disables the facility.
The use of this sysparm requires the user to add a DD statement in the backup or restore jobstep equal to that of this sysparm. For example, either of the following examples would be valid:
//TESTDD DD SYSOUT=*
-- or
//DSSMSGDD DD DSN=output.data.set,DISP=OLD
The value that you choose for this sysparm should not be any DDname that is already in use by CA Disk.

Then, the same dataset involved in the error message can be dumped using the native DFSMSdss DUMP command obtained from the previous step, excluding DISK from the test. If the same error is taken, then this is something that needs to be investigated on IBM DFSMSdss side. Here a DFSMSdss sample execution listing:

The specific IBM DFSMSdss error means that the dataset is damaged and it cannot be managed in any way, it can only be scratched.
