Issue/Introduction

What causes these messages from the RELOAD utility?

PRIOR/OWNER POINTER FOR SET IN RECORD (ID=xxx) AT dbkey IS INVALID BECAUSE TARGET RECORD NOT UNLOADED

ORIGINAL DBKEY WAS dbkey MISSING TARGET DBKEY dbkey

Environment

Release: 19.0

Resolution

These messages usually indicate one of the following:

  1. There are broken chains in the database. Please run IDMSDBAN to identify the broken chains. If any are found, they must be fixed and the utility must be rerun from the UNLOAD step. DB Audit can be used to fix the broken chains.

  2.  Logically deleted records (LDELs) present in the areas. Please run the CLEANUP utility to remove logically deleted records then  rerun from the UNLOAD step.

  3. Incorrect dataset specification in the JCL, like formatting the wrong areas. Please correct the JCL and rerun the RELOAD.

  4. Something happening to one of the intermediate datasets, such as not being cataloged. Please correct and rerun the utility from the previous step from where the problem occurred.

Additional Information

See documentation section UNLOAD, RELOAD, CLEANUP, IDMSDBAN and DB Audit.
