Issue/Introduction

You want to upgrade to CCS 12.5.2, and avoid any possible problems during the upgrade.

Environment

Upgrading CCS versions CCS 12.5 or CCS 12.5.1 can be directly upgraded to CCS 12.5.2.  If you are on 12.0 or 12.0.1 you will need to upgrade to CCS 12.5 first, then upgrade to 12.5.2.

Resolution

Upgrading to CCS 12.5.2

Checklist before upgrading:

  • Make sure you are on a supported SQL version before upgrading to 12.5.2 (SQL 2012, SQL 2014 or SQL 2016).  If you have your existing CSM_DB and CSM_Reports databases on MSSQL 2008, you will need to upgrade them to MSSQL 2012, MSSQL 2014 or MSSQL 2016 as MSSQL 2008 databases are not supported and will cause problems and the upgrade to 12.5.2 will fail and have problems.   MSSQL 2019 is not supported until you are at CCS 12.5.2, in which case once you are at 12.5.2 you can do an in place upgrade to MSSQL 2019.
  • Support for the CCS Application Server and CCS Remote Managers on Windows 2019 is only supported for fresh installs of 12.5.2.  Upgrading to 12.5.2 does not support Windows 2019 as the file structure of the CCS installation will still reflect the older supported versions of Windows and will cause problems.
  • On the Application server, make sure you are installing/applying the new SCU and/or 12.5.2 upgrade as the CCS Service account (or as the user that originally installed CCS).
  • On the CCS Remote Managers, you just need to run the new SCU and/or 12.5.2 upgrade as a local administrator.

NOTE: It is recommended to make a full backup of the Application Server and CCS databases before applying any updates, and it is also good to reboot your Application Server and remote managers if possible just prior to the upgrade to make sure no jobs are running and no files are in use that need to be upgraded.

Order for upgrading your Application Server and Remote Managers to CCS 12.5.2

  1. Verify you are on CCS 12.5 or later. If you are on 12.0 or 12.0.1 you will need to upgrade to CCS 12.5 first, then upgrade to 12.5.2.
  2. Apply the Assembly Verifier as per the KB: CCS 12.x Assembly VerifiersNOTE: If you have applied SCU 2021-1 or later to your Application Server and remote managers, this step can be skipped as the Assembly Verifiers are now included in SCU 2021-1 or later.
  3. Reboot the Application Server to clear any jobs or files that might be in use.
  4. Upgrade the Application Server using the CCS Service Account (or as the user that originally installed CCS), or push out the update via LiveUpdate.
  5. Reboot any remote CCS Managers to clear any files that may be in use.
  6. Upgrade the remote managers, right click on the executable and 'Run As Administrator', or push out the update via LiveUpdate.
