Issue/Introduction

Script monitor is reporting error 7019. This monitor is using OPMS. We rebooted the server but that did not resolve the issue. The error description is:

7019: detectportal.firefox.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

Description: 7019: detectportal.firefox.com: Temporary failure in name resolution
Checkpoint: <OPMS hostname>
Time: September 02 2021 15:41:47 America/New_York

Environment

Release : SAAS

Component : APP SYNTHETIC MONITOR ENVIRONMENTAL

Resolution

The error suggests an issue with DNS resolution, but when we set up a test DNS monitor on the OPMS, pointing to nameservers listed in customer's /etc/resolv.conf, it works fine:

The issue seems to be that the docker container that runs the Script monitor does not forward DNS queries correctly to upstream servers.
The customer has an older version of docker-ce package - 19.03.12. We suggest upgrading to at least 20.x to see if it fixes the issue.  Additionally, the OPMS version is 10.4. This is over a year old and should also be upgraded to the latest version.
