"Unknown error while validating schema" while attempting to install a license in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

While attempting to install a license in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange, you receive an error that reads "Unknown error while validating schema." This error occurs as soon as the button to install the license is clicked. 

Environment

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange version 7.X.

Microsoft Windows Server. 

Resolution

Ensure that the SMSMSE Console is running as administrator. If the SMSMSE Console is not run as administrator, or does not have administrator rights, it will be unable to properly validate the license and will return this error. 

Additional Information

If your SMSMSE Console is already running as administrator and you continue to receive this error, then this error is likely indicative of a modified or altered license. This error can also occur if your SMSMSE license was improperly modified so that it no longer validates as expected. If this error continues, download your license again and ensure it is not modified or altered in any way.
