Messaging Gateway S450 fails initial bootstrap: No Such device eth0

Issue/Introduction

When performing the initial bootstrap of the Messaging Gateway (SMG) appliance on the S450 hardware platform, the following error is returned from the bootstrap script even though the network information is correct:

Failed to configure interfaces: SIOCSIFADDR: No Such device eth0: Error while getting interface flags: No Such device SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No Such device eth0: Error while getting interface flags: No Such deviceSIOCSIFMTU: No such device
Failed to create default route: SIOCSIFADDR: No such device eth0: Error while getting interface flags: No such device SIOCSIFMTU: No such device RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable .

 

Cause

This is a known issue resulting from a problem naming the network interfaces in SMG 10.7.4 on the S450 hardware platform.

This issue only affects SMG running a fresh install of 10.7.4 on the S450 hardware platform. Dell appliances, VMWare, and Hyper-V installations are unaffected.

Upgrades to 10.7.4 from previous release are not affected by this issue with the exception of 10.7.4-289 (patch 289 installed).

Resolution

This issue has been resolved in version 10.7.5 and later. If you are experiencing this issue, it is recommended to upgrade to 10.7.5 or do a fresh install of 10.7.5.
