Issue/Introduction

To add a cluster member, login to the Encryption Management Server administration console, navigate to System / Clustering, click on the Add button and enter the FQDN of the cluster member you wish to add.

Sometimes, when trying to add a cluster member, the cluster member you added does not appear in the list of cluster members.

Nothing appears in the log files under Reporting / Logs.

Environment

Symantec Encryption Management Server release 10.5 and above.

Resolution

When you click the Add button, Encryption Management Server check whether there is sufficient free disk space on the sponsor.

By default, in order to add a cluster member, the sponsor server requires free disk space of three times the size of the database.

If there is insufficient disk space, an entry is logged to the Cluster log file but it is a debug entry so will not normally be seen:

RepStatus.add: Insufficient space on disk. Aborting add.

To check whether you have sufficient space, you can do the following:

  1. SSH to the server.
  2. Check the size of the database:
    du -h /var/lib/pgsql/10 |grep data |tail -1
  3. Check the available disk space on the / partition:
    df -h |grep 'Avail\|/$'

If the size of the database is more than three times the size of the available disk space, you will not be able to add a cluster member. Please open a technical support case for assistance with freeing up disk space.
