Issue/Introduction

We are able to see our Data collector is not connected to CAPC post monthly Operating System patch. 

Unable to start Data Collector service

 

Cause

User shell is not allowing to login

 

Environment

Release : 21.2

Resolution

Steps to resolve the issue

1. Take a backup of /etc/passwd file before you do modifications

cp -p /etc/passwd /etc/passwd-backup

2. Edit /etc/passwd file

Check the dcuser shell access if it is set to /sbin/nologin or any shell which doesn't allow to login then you need to modify

Example

From

dcuser:x:0:xxxxx::/home/dcuser:/sbin/nologin

To

dcuser:x:0:xxxxx::/home/dcuser:/bin/bash

3. Save the file 

4. Now try to start the dcmd service

service dcmd start

service activemq start
