Issue/Introduction
User is receiving the error message "Not authorized to read object Project <PROJECT_OID>". I need to understand how to translate <PROJECT_OID> to a project name. How can I do this on my own in the Rally UI?
*This can also happen with Release. The troubleshooting is the same for project or release.
Resolution
The user seeing the error will be unable to find the Project or Release as they do not have access to it.
It will be necessary to contact your Rally Subscription or Workspace Administrator for assistance with this.
There are a couple of ways a Rally Workspace Administrator or Subscription Administrator can do this.
Using the Rally Dashboard page or using the Rally Project page in the Admin menu.
Option 1 below will not find closed projects.
Option 2 will find closed project information.
Option 1 to find Project.
Through the Home>Dashboard page by replacing the current Project ObjectID in the URL at the top of the page with the Project ObjectID in the error message.
If you receive a 404 Not Found error, please confirm you are in the correct Workspace.
If you are in the correct Workspace the project may be closed and you will need to use Option 2 below to find the project.
Option 2 to find Project.
Through the Administrator Menu by accessing the Project page.
Go to the Admin menu
Select the Workspaces & Projects menu
Select a Workspace
Select "Projects" from the side menu - MAKE SURE the "STATE" field dropdown is set to "All" (not Open).
Select any project
replace the current Project ObjectID in the URL at the top of the page with the Project ObjectID in the error message. This will display the Project page and its information for the Project in the Error message. (ProjectObjectID.png)
If the Project ObjectID in the URL has a "d" or a "u", remove that when pasting the ProjectID from the Error message. ie: <PROJECT_OID>d would become <PROJECT_OID> - no "d"
Option 3 to find a Release - Can also be used for any Timebox or Portfolio Item.
Navigate to any Release that is in the same Workspace that the user was in when the error was seen.
You will replace the Release ObjectID in the URL (in Pink below) to the Release ObjectID you are looking for. Also, add the "ud" to the project ObjectID to search up and down the project hierarchy.
If you are unable to find the Release with the above, the release may be in a closed Project. Please open a case with Rally Support for further assistance with this.
