Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : CA 1 Tape Management

Cause

TMS was temporarily pointing to the wrong TMC.
HSM tape was incorrectly set to SCRATCH status.

Resolution

To recover the volume you need to:

  1. Get a TAPEMAP of the volume.
  2. If HDR1 in the TAPEMAP shows the tape as HSM then you will need to manually update the TMC information.

    1. DSN,

    2. DSN17

    3. EXPDT=PERMANENT

    4. EDMID=HSM (or the EDMID you are using for HSM tapes).

  3. If the HDR1 does NOT show it as a HSM tape then do NOT update the TMC.  In this case the tape has been overwritten and the data is lost.

Additional Information

Procedures for TAPEMAP can be found here.
