Issue/Introduction

The customer is trying to upgrade from ITMS 8.5 RU4 to 8.6.

During the configuration steps in SIM (Symantec Installation Manager), it fails with this error:

The upgrade didn't fail with the MSIs installation but something is causing the config files to fail. If he tries to re-configure one of the Solutions by itself in SIM, it doesn't show that it was done.

Environment

Upgrade from ITMS 8.5 RU4 to 8.6

Cause

Unknown. In this particular instance, the customer used a restored copy of his production database. It was done when the customer had ITMS 8.5 RU3. Something in the database didn't let the configuration process move forward during the database configuration.

Resolution

Create a new database:

  1. Open SIM
  2. Go to Configure Settings > Configure Database Settings
