Issue/Introduction

Our device are configured with one set of SNMP V3 credentials for SNMP communication and another set of SNMP V3 credentials in the SNMP V3 traps.

Can Spectrum be configured to handle these different set of SNMP V3 credentials for the same device?

Environment

Release : Any

Component : Spectrum Core / SpectroSERVER

Resolution

- If a v3 trap is received AND the v3 creds in the v3 trap are the same as the ones used when modeling the device, Spectrum will process the trap using those v3 creds.

- If a v3 trap is received AND the v3 creds in the are NOT the same, Spectrum will try to process the v3 trap with the v3 creds from the device model but will fail and the trap will be dropped.

- If a v3 trap is received AND the v3 creds in the are NOT the same BUT there is a V3 Profile created in the Spectrum database with those v3 creds, Spectrum will process the v3 trap with the v3 creds from the v3 profile.

In short, if the v3 creds from the v3 trap are different from the v3 creds used to model the device in Spectrum, you will need to create a v3 profile in order to process the trap.
