Issue/Introduction

Where does XCOM use Java internally and does it need to be kept installed?
Also currently the only supported Java version 1.8 with XCOM is now relatively old and nearing end of support.
XCOM™ Data Transport® for Windows 12.0 > Installing > Prepare for Installation > Address Software Requirements

Environment

  • CA XCOM Data Transport for Linux PC
  • CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows
  • XCOM Data Transport for Linux PC
  • XCOM Data Transport for Windows

Resolution

XCOM does not use Java in its core functionality for the transfer of data between systems and only uses Java for the following:

  • Install XCOM
  • XCOM GUI (StandaloneUI.sh, StandaloneUI.bat) Most XCOM functionality can be achieved from the command line. However, in the case of trusted configurations or to test history or trusted database setup, XCOM GUI is the only option.
  • SMTP Email notifications
  • Base XCOM - XCOM Gateway connections if XCOM Gateway id is being used.
  • To trigger the Splunk client, in the case of XCOM - Splunk feed
  • Apply/Uninstall maintenance
  • XCOM Base Uninstaller

Additional Information

There are plans for XCOM installs to support later Java versions but this is still in progress.
