Issue/Introduction

In View, what type of encryption is used if you don't use the SARINIT ENCRYPT= ... parameter to protect the database tape and DASD?

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : CA View

Resolution

With SARINIT ENCRYPT= (the default), there will be light encryption of data on disk and tape.

Light encryption is a simple translation of the characters to different characters, so they will be viewable to the naked eye.

There are two SARINIT options:

 . ENCRYPT=ICSF,nnn
 . . Produces a clear encryption key.

 . ENCRYPT=ICFSEC,nnn
 . . Available with View 14.0 PTF LU00151.
 . . Produces a secure encryption key.
. . Requires more security clearances than use of ICSF.

Both ICSF and ICSFSEC use the same AES encryption algorithm.

Note: Enryption of tape data may cause lower tape capacity due to diminished ability of tape hardware to compress data.
