Question:
Is it possible for CA IDMS server to encrypt the data passed between the front-end application (windows or Unix) and the back-end CA IDMS mainframe application.
Answer:
CA IDMS Server encrypts the password but does not do any encryption of the data itself. Encryption is provided by the transport layer being used, either CCI or TCP/IP. It also depends on whether you are using ODBC or JDBC.
If using ODBC or a JDBC type 2 driver, encryption can be provided by CAICCI r2.1 and above. You need to select the SSL option in the CAICCI properties panel and configure and start the CCISSL task on the mainframe. See the CA Common Services for z/OS Getting Started 11.0 manual page 4-41 for further details.
If using a JDBC type 4 driver you need to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). This is provided in z/OS r1.7 and later releases with AT-TLS. See informational APAR QI83006 on support.ca.com for information on using AT-TLS.
