Resolution

This is a undocumented message.

*RCS0005 RCSF - ALREADY ACTIVE IN THIS SYSTEM  
*0048 RCS0048 CA-REMOTE CONSOLE  INITIALIZATION FAILURE, DO YOU WANT A DUMP (YES OR NO)

ACTION:

The RCS0005 message is exactly what it means. Nothing hidden. The subsystem is still active. Apparently, an abend condition did not totally clear out the subsystem components. Or, there is already another active RCS on the same image.

When you tried to start RCS the process discovered another RCS startup orphan component left over from the last abend or subsystem components from another active RCS subsystem.

If  you reply NO to the dump option RCS will go through proper shutdown and clear the orphaned startup components from the system in the case of an abend or just end normally..

If you are trying to use two (2) RCS subsystems on the same image please see KD  221668 for those instructions.

If there was an abend of RCS for some reason and you are confident that no RCS components are active, then the REPLY NO to the dump option will completely clear the RCS existing components, so a new startup should be completed properly.
