XCOM Data Transport

Issue/Introduction

Migrating XCOM for AS/400 i5/OS server to new hardware.

1. Does XCOM need a software license key/file?

2. What is the advice for install/configuration on the new server. Can the existing configuration be copied from the old server?

Environment

XCOM™ Data Transport® for AS/400 i5/OS

Resolution

1. XCOM for AS/400 requires no software license key/file.

2. For migrating to the new server, a new XCOM install and a new configuration will need to be done.
However, if the XCOM library is copied from the old server to the new server i.e. SAVLIB/RSTLIB into library OLD_SERVER, which is different from the new install library, then the new install can copy the configuration files from that library OLD_SERVER.
During the install of XCOM there are prompts and the one that will copy the configuration is "Copy files from library?" where the name of the above library OLD_SERVER should be specified.
"Copy files from library" is covered in the documentation under the "Prepare for Installation" page and under the "Install Product Software" page ("List of Prompts" section):
XCOM™ Data Transport® for AS/400 11.0 > Installing > Prepare for Installation
XCOM™ Data Transport® for AS/400 11.0 > Installing > Install Product Software

Additional Information

1. An alternative approach would be to do a full system restore from the old server to the new server.

2. It is also strongly advised to be at the latest XCOM service pack and patch level for 11.0:
