MAINFRAME NETWORK MANAGEMENT NetMaster File Transfer Management NetMaster Network Automation NetMaster Network Management for TCP/IP

Issue/Introduction

We are installing new maintenance and we are going from USS to ZFS structures.  In the process, we had to do some resynch's.  The question that we were given by the install was we needed the on-going primary focal point.  We have:

Resolution

With  linked regions,  once they are linked as focals, they are basically all equal. The 'main' focal is generally the system used for viewing all other systems. Aside from that, all systems linked as focal to focal are the same.

Rule of thumb:

1) The  FOCAL region contains the system image of itself plus all systems linked and synced together.
2) When you unlink, the system images remain.
3) When relinking, the system on which you initiate the link and synch has its system image overwritten with the content of the RAMDB on the system to which it is linking. Since in your case all systems have all system images, there is no problem when unlinking and relinking. Simply initiate the unlink on the region you wish to isolate, then initiate the link and sync again when you are ready.

Please be aware that, if you have a group of regions that are linked together, any region to be upgraded from 12.1 to 12.1 must first be unlinked to avoid problems.

Or doc outlines this here
https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-mainframe-software/performance-and-storage/ca-netmaster-shared-content-library/12-2/install-or-upgrade-ca-netmaster-products/prepare-to-upgrade-migrate.html#concept.dita_4334b78a8d0f1e8ae762fecdc49ffd6e66b40ff4_PrepareforMultisystemNetworkMigration

In your case, where all regions are FOCAL, the safest way to handle this is

1) Unlink one of the FOCALs and  upgrade to 12.2, performing all migration steps including /RAMUTIL.M

2) Unlink the next FOCAL to be upgraded, upgrade to 12.2, then link to your 12.2 region from #1. The /RAMUTIL is not needed as this focal will receive that content from #1. Other migration steps are still required.

Continue this process until all systems have been upgraded and are once again linked together as FOCALs.

If you do have users that need to see all regions from one location it can be done using migration mode, but there are special considerations and limitations when doing so.
