Issue/Introduction

Introduction:

If you ever need to search for a specific keyword in a CA Ideal program contained in your VLS source file, you can use VLSUTIL SCAN to scan your VLS source library.

Question:

Is there a way to search for a specific keyword in an Ideal program contained in the VLS source file?

Environment:

z/OS, z/VSE

Answer:

You can use VLSUTIL SCAN Function to scan your VLS source library. Note that the VLSUTIL SCAN function scans only the first 70 columns of a VLS member so it does have limitations. You can also use source transport (IDUTSTRN) to export the program to a sequential file, then search for the keyword in the sequential file.

Additional Information:

For information regarding the VLSUTIL SCAN, see the CA IPC Implementation Guide for z/OS.

Information regarding IDUTSTRN can be found CA Ideal CA Datacom Working in the Environment Reference Guide.
