Issue/Introduction

Having a problem with executing the upgrade on the second cluster node.

Accessing the http://loadbalanced_url:port/itpam and going through Configuration -> Installation palette -> "Install Cluster Node For Domain Orchestrator". This downloads a JNLP file, but eventually get to the last screen of the Third Party Installer process where it says:

"Prerequisites installation has been completed successfully.

Insert CA Process Automation installer DVD, or browse to the location with the contents of CA Process Automation installer. Click Finish to launch CA Process Automation installation."

Then there is a checkbox for "Use Domain" which is checked and a read only input field for "Directory" that had the value: C:\Users\caitpam\AppData\Local\Temp\2\

At this point, he clicks the Finish button. But, instead of it launching the next installer (like it says in the documentation/instructions), it doesn't do anything.

Looking at the directory (C:\Users\caitpam\AppData\Local\Temp\2\) showed a file named: Third_Party_Installer_<servername>_error.log

In this file we found various errors indicating that it was having problems writing to the file system, such as:

log4j:ERROR setFile(null, true) call failed.

java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Program Files\CA\PAM\server\c2o\installation.log (Access is denied)

And:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Program Files\CA\PAM\config_backup_07_29_2021_1515\OasisConfig.properties (The system cannot find the path specified)

Resolution

To solve the issue we:

  • Downloaded a new copy of the installation.jnlp
  • Opened a command prompt using the “right click” -> “Run as administrator” option.
  • Run the command: cd C:\Users\<username>\Downloadds
  • Run the command: javaws installation.jnlp
  • Go through all of the prompts.
  • Click Finish. This time, after clicking “Finish” it was showing the following message on the same screen:
Copying CA Process Automation installer. This may take a few minutes to complete, please wait…

This message was not appearing while experiencing the problem. Something else that was different between this time and when the having the problem - the path in the “Directory” input field, this time, pointed to: C:\Users\caitpam\AppData\Local\Temp
  • After waiting a few minutes it showed the new installer screen “Welcome to the CA Process Automation Domain Setup Wizard”.
  • From here, click Next on most screens (provide the Certificate Password when prompted).
  • The installation completed successfully.
