Issue/Introduction

  • The Project - Modify Baseline All right description in Licensing portlets does not match with the description in the documentation:
  • Online Documenation 15.9.2 PPM
    • Project - Modify Baseline All > Description: Allows the user to edit the baseline for all project instances to which the user has edit access.
  • Licensing portlets:
    • Project - Modify Baseline All > Description: Allows a resource to baseline all project. The right also allows a resource to view the general project properties and processes.

The Description for the 'Project - Modify Baseline - All' global access right does not match the online documentation and it is vague as to what access it provides. The access right description states: Allows a resource to baseline all project. The right also allows a resource to view the general project properties and processes. The online documentation states: Allows a resource to baseline all project instances to which the user has edit access.

Examination of the global access right provides the user with the capability to create, update and delete baselines only; it does not include project 'edit' access.  The Baseline access will only work when the user has access to 'edit' the project.  Project 'edit' access must be granted separately to the user via global, OBS or instance access. If the user has Project 'view' access with the Baseline access, the user will not have permissions to create, update, delete baselines.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Look to the Release 15.9.2 Clarity PPM online documentation for Program Access Rights
  2. Check for the 'Project - Modify Baseline All' access right
  3. The description states: Allows the user to edit the baseline for all project instances to which the user has edit access.
  4. Login to Clarity
  5. Go to Administration > Organization and Access > License Information
  6. On the Rights By License Type filter by Project - Modify Baseline All access right
  7. Look at the Description

Expected Results: Both the online documentation and the access right description should clearly state: Allows the user to create, update, and delete baselines for all project instances to which the user has edit access.

Actual Results: The current access right description is not correct as it does not indicate additional access rights to 'edit' the project is required. It states: Allows a resource to baseline all project. The right also allows a resource to view the general project properties and processes.

Environment

Release : 15.9.2, 15.9.3

Cause

DE62053. The Description is incorrect in the Clarity product.

Workaround: Refer to the online documentation instead of the Description field in the License Information Portlets for the Baseline permissions.

Resolution

Fixed in Release 16.0.0

  • The Baseline Access Right Descriptions have been corrected in the Clarity Product and now matches the online documentation.
  • The functionality did NOT change.  Only the text in the Description field.
  • The Administrator will need to assign additional access for the user to actually 'modify' the baseline.
  • The update is implemented for the following Investment Objects: Applications, Assets, Other Work, Products, Projects, Service.

Example of the updated Description in the Clarity Product for Projects:

Additional Information

Baseline functionality applies to the following investment types:

  • Baselines for: Applications, Assets, Other Work, Products, Projects, Service
  • Ideas & CITs don't have Baseline functionality

Below describes how the 'Project' baseline permissions work:

  • The 'instance'/'obs' right 'Project - Modify Baseline' right - Includes more access rights to the project. It includes the 'Project - Edit Management' permission to that project.  Therefore the user does not need additional rights added.
  • The 'global' right does NOT include the right to Edit permissions to any projects and therefore the administrator must assign edit access to the projects --- basically the statement we already have is correct. (it says for the projects the user has edit access to)
  • The Global right:
    • Allows a resource to baseline all projects. The right also allows a resource to view the general project properties and processes.
    • The Administrator must grant additional permissions to the user for Project Edit ---  to create, edit, update or delete the Baselines.
