Endpoint Encryption

Issue/Introduction

Symantec Endpoint Encryption includes several features, such as SEE Removable Media Encryption (RME) and Drive Encryption (DE) as well as Bitlocker (BL) components.  The SEE Client also has the ability to include multiple features into one install, such as the following software combinations:

"DE + RME"
"BL + RME"

If you have installed SEE DE + RME and want to remove the RME component, this is possible with a command to install.

For more details on these parameters, see our online Help file.

Resolution

In order to keep SEE DE installed, but remove the RME component, you would obtain your SEE installer that includes the SEE RME + DE client and run the following command:

msiexec /i SEEclient-package-here.msi REMOVE="RME"

If Drive Encryption is installed, the above command will remove RME, and leave DE installed.

Note: It is not possible to uninstall DE on a machine that is encrypted.
