Issue/Introduction

The SpectroSERVER is taking 1+ hours for model activation to complete.

A review of the SpectroSERVER Control -> Thread Information subview showed the activation process using up all 600 "Relation Active Threads" for an extended period of time before "Model Activate Threads" were used. After that, model activation took as long as expected.

Environment

Release : Any

Component : Spectrum Core / SpectroSERVER

Cause

For this specific instance, the SpectroSERVER database had over 900 Global Collections (GC), 646 Network Configuration Manager (NCM) Policies and 687 NCM Tasks.

During the model activation process, all GC's are evaluated and all NCM Policies are verified and the latest NCM configurations are run.

Resolution

To help speed up the model activation process in this instance:

- Cut down on the number of GC's. Only maintain the GC's that are absolutely necessary.

- Cut down on the number of NCM Policies and Tasks. Only maintain the NCM Policies and Tasks that are absolutely necessary.

- Increase the number of "Relation Active Threads"

Additional Information

Code changes were made in Spectrum 22.2.5 that places the NCM Policies after Model Activation that should help reduce the time for Model Activation when using NCM Policies.
