Mainframe VM Product Manager VM:Backup for z/VM

Issue/Introduction

Issued a VMBACKUP SUBMIT WEEKLY and the system abended with multiple soft LAl014 abends and a hard LAL014.

IBM suspects that our VMNDLK exit should have been recompiled after applying VM66173 for 4TB support.

Environment

Release : 3.6

Component : CA VM:Backup

z/VM 7.2

Resolution

PTF SO15166/version 4 is required for z/VM 7.2.

You can also issue VMNDLKVI to show what VERSION of VMNDLK is loaded.

From VMANAGER, issue VMNDLKVI:

VMNDLKVI
VMNDLK: CA Directory Reader - Diagnose Code=100; Class=E; Version=4
Ready;

It should say "VERSION=4".

Additional Information

Unless you have done something to change standard IPL processing, the PMAINT CF0 will always be initially CPACCESS'd as "A" at the time when the CPXLOAD is done, so that is likely where the VMNDLKnn TEXT file was found and loaded from.

Later in the IPL processing,the PMAINT CF0 is released and usually the MAINT CF1 ends up to be CPACCESS'd as "A".
