Issue/Introduction

The Message Service Server (MSS) collects and feeds metric data to Mainframe Operational Intelligence (MOI).

When there is a data flow issue between MSS and MOI, it is sometimes necessary to perform diagnostic commands to debug the data flow issue.

Resolution

Execute the following command in SYSVIEW on the LPAR that appears to be having a metric data flow issue between MSS and MOI.

MODIFY <JOB>,APPL=DIAG,type=LOG

where the <JOB> is the Message Service Server STC that you have running and feeding metric data to your MOI Appliance.  The default STC name is ZMSSTART,  but the name may have been changed in your installation.

Wait  a few minutes to allow capture of log information, and then collect the MSS logs contained in the logs directory as shown below.

The z/OS Message Service Server log files reside in the USS ${path}/cfgb/instance/messageService/logs directory, where ${path} is the INSTALL_HOME variable specified in the z/OS Message Server STC that is running on z/OS.

Please tar and zip up the MSS logs directory using the   tar cvzf  <tar file name>  ${path}/cfgb/instance/messageService/logs  command and upload it to a Broadcom Support Case for analysis.
