Is Java required on PAM Windows Proxy Servers?

Issue/Introduction

Customers query if Java is required on PAM Proxy servers. If not required, customers want to remove Java from their PAM Windows Proxy servers.

Cause

This because if PAM Proxy requires Java to run then customers have to continually upgrade Java version on their Windows servers if the Java version they are running with is found to be insecure.

Resolution

Java is required for CA PAM Windows Proxy. PAM Proxy process (cspmagentd.exe) is a java program.  Below is a Process Explorer view which shows cspmagentd.exe calls javaw.exe (c:\cspm_agent\cloakware\cspmclient\jre\bin\javaw.exe).
