Issue/Introduction

The Microsoft Active Directory is showing the proxy hostname as being truncated with an unknown characters.

When the hostname of the proxy joining to a domain is "PROXYSG123456789", the machine account on the Microsoft Active Directory Users and Computers will show the following hostname:

 

When the hostname of the proxy joining to a domain is "PROXYSG12345678", the machine account on the Microsoft Active Directory Users and Computers will show the following hostname which is the exact same hostname:

Cause

This is because of the limitation on the Microsoft Active Directory in regards to the hostname naming conversion based on the Microsoft article below:

Resolution

On the proxy's Windows Domain, the hostname would need to be shorten to 15 characters or less.
