Issue/Introduction

Question:

Why is the Task Date not editable although the WIP transaction has been adjusted or reversed?

Answer:

The application keeps a historical record of the original transaction and this prevents the task from allowing the date to be changed.

Entering new transaction via a voucher or XOG can extend task duration if the transaction date is outside of the task duration. When the transaction date is earlier than the task start date, the task start date is adjusted to the transaction date when the Import Financial Actual job is run.

If this transaction is adjusted or reversed, after approving and running the Import Financial Actuals job, the task start date still cannot be edited. This also impacts the ability to change project start date to any day later than the original task start date. Same with changing the end date in the other direction.

The steps below illustrates what happens when there is a WIP Adjustment or WIP Reversal.

Example #1: WIP Adjustment to change the date

  1. Create a project, start date is August 1st. Create a task with the same start date
  2. Create a voucher Transaction Entry or XOG a transaction, transaction date is earlier, such as March 1st
    • Post to WIP
    • Run Import Financial Actuals job
    • Both the project and the task start dates are now March 1st, as expected
    • Perform a XOG read using the sample file 'prj_projects_alloc_act_etc_read.xml' and you will see the <ActCurve> date segment for the transaction
  3. Create WIP Adjustment
    • Change the transaction date from March 1st to a later date such as August 1st
    • Save the WIP Adjustment
    • Approve this adjustment
    • Run the Import Financial Actuals job
  4. Project and task start date still show March 1st - the Task Start Date is not editable
  5. Perform a XOG read and you will see that the original transaction date segment (March 1st) still exists in the BLOB and it now has a quantity zero (0) and the new date segment (August 1st) is showing with the details of the transaction

Example #2: WIP Reversal to remove the transaction

  3. Create WIP Reversal
    • Select the transaction from the Create WIP Adjustment page
    • Click 'Reverse' button
    • Approve this reversal adjustment
    • Run the Import Financial Actuals job
  4. Project and task start date still show March 1st - the Task Start Date is not editable
  5. Perform a XOG read and you will see that the original transaction date segment (March 1st) still exists in the BLOB and it now has a quantity zero (0)
