Dynamic Capacity Intelligence

Issue/Introduction

New z15 hardware installed few days ago. On an LPAR there are three CPs. All the three CPs have Hiperdispatch 'HIGH' definition. But after DCI entered in a "capping" interval, Hiperdispatch changed the definitions:

  • 1 CP Medium
  • 1 CP low
  • 1 CP low (sometimes parked)

Any explanation?

Resolution

DCI has no direct relationship to Hiperdispatch. Just like it doesn’t have any direct impact on WLM (i.e. DCI doesn't alter WLM policies or definitions).

When DCI does a change to HMC for capacity, WLM may or may not react to it, depending on how WLM is set up by the customer. Whether that results in WLM making a change to Hiperdispatch is again dependent on how WLM is set up by the customer.

Hiperdispatch has been adjusted by WLM since Z10 and Z196 days.
