Issue/Introduction

While we are upgrading UIM version from 20.3.0 to 20.3.3, we encountered an error and after that some probes are down and UIM is inaccessible.

Install fails at 39% with "Failed to install java_jre..."

Environment

Release : 20.3

Component : UIM - INSTALL

- Upgrade from 20.3.0 to 20.3.3

- Windows OS: 2012 R2

- DR environment

Cause

- corrupted download of uimserverpackages.zip (wrong size of file).

Resolution

  • uimserverpackages.zip file on customer's system was: 936,952 KB or 914MB. The uimserverpackages.zip was corrupted/partially downloaded as it should have been 2.89 GB.
  • ADE would not start or once we were able to start it would not stay up during the install process.
  • ADE probe was still at 20.30 when it should have been upgraded to 20.31.
  • Also the java_jre probe was 2.05, but should have been upgraded to 2.06. The java_jrepackage and ADE probes of the latest version were not present in the local archive.
  • Even after redeploying the java_jre 2.05 initially, the install then failed at 41%.
  • After deploying the latest ADE and java_jre the install could complete but many probes were not started and they were obviously not updated. This was due to the corrupted uimserverpackages.zip file.
  • Copied the uimserverpackages.zip to the case so the customer could download it, and reran the installation, which was then successful.
