You are importing custom Report templates in the CCS console, but errors out and does not import the custom report template.

Environment

Release : CCS 12.6.x

Resolution

There are differences on when to use the 'Add a report template' and when to use 'Update a report template':

  • The 'Add a report template' should only be used if a new report template was created using Crystal Reports exclusively and was not based off of one of the predefined report templates.
  • The 'Update a report template' should be used if the report template was customized from existing predefined report templates.

 

See the steps below on how to 'Update a report template' that was customized using one of the predefined report templates:

  1. In the Console, select the Reports->Reports Template, and then click on the Reports folder.
  2. Create a new folder named "Custom report" (for example, it can be whatever you choose ) under Reports folder.
  3. From Predefined reports select the predefined report that you customized report template is based off of, right click this template and select Copy.
    1. Click on newly created folder "Custom report" and Paste this report.
  4. Now from Common Tasks dropdown , select "Add Or Update" menu. Select "Update a report template" bullet point.
  5. In the 'Select Report Template' section, in the 'Import template from*' and then select your custom Report Template and then click on "Custom report" folder in left pane. Select the predefined report template that your custom template was built off and click 'Next' and 'Finish' .It shows "Successfully updated the report template".
