Views show IP address instead of Device name in CA Performance Management (CAPM)

Issue/Introduction

The Device name is shown in default admin user profile, however, the same device when viewed from a different user without admin permissions shows only the IP address.

 

Environment

DX NetOps 20.2.x CAPM

Resolution

The issue here is that when you are logged in as admin, you the column is the device 'Name'.

But when you proxy to a user, the column is 'Name Alias':

So the proxy user modified the columns to show 'Name Alias' instead of device 'Name'.

If you show both Name and Name Alias, you should see the device name under Name and IP under Name Alias. Name alias being IP means when the devices were initially discovered, they were named by IP.  So the system copied Name (IP) to Name Alias.

Then later naming named the devices via hostname or sysname, and Name column got updated. The Name Alias is not touched after being set.  So it remains as the IP address.
